Making A Difference

Our goal is to not only be known as a group of people that are involved in the kids lives as we teach the four principles, provide tutoring, and become mentors for the kids, but also to be involved in the lives of the parents and to win their trust. We want “Standing In The Gap”, to be known as a people who truly cares, and are dedicated to giving back to the community. We look for opportunities to serve, and give back when possible. I’ve mentioned that I’m a bus driver but I also work in the maintenance department. This involves processing work orders submitted by the schools as a way of being sure the facilities, and campuses in the district are working properly, and well- kept. As, I work in the schools especially during the winter months there are numerous lost items that are placed in specific areas where the students have access to look through containers to finds them. Because there are so many items when the student looks for their lost item they give up because they don’t have the time or the patience. In an effort to Give Back, I asked what is done with the lost items that aren’t claimed? Although each school have their own process, the majority of them donate to Goodwill or the Salvation Army. My plans are to work with the elementary schools to create a process to insure every coat has the students name, and have the coats available for the students to look for their lost item. This will give us and the school the opportunity to match the lost item with the student and reduce the number.

Note: Our goal is to discover other ways to Give Back to the community. We also want the kids that are participating in “Standing In The Gap”, to understand the importance of serving, helping others, and Giving Back. We want to accomplish this task by searching for Service Projects in the community.
